March 29, 2020 was always going to be their day. I eagerly waited March for their beautiful wedding day in Washington DC during the cherry blossom season and within the span of just a couple weeks, everything changed in the US. Still, we agreed on a Friday to move forward and the following Wednesday, I got the notice that the wedding was postponed due to restrictions put in place by Washington DC to fight COVID-19.
Still, we kept our fingers and toes crossed and moved forward with Plan B: an intimate elopement, just Mallory and Josh and I.
Weather looked like a factor, we were holding our breath for Virginia and Washington DC to keep it together for just a little longer and FINALLY March 29th came!
I met Mallory at the hotel she was getting ready at and drooled over her gorgeous bridal details and helped her into her stunning wedding dress. We headed out to the National Mall, where Josh was waiting for Mallory at the DC War Memorial. It had gone full circle for them. When they were planning their wedding at the beginning, they looked at the War Memorial for their ceremony site and ultimately decided against it. And there we were, back at the War Memorial for their ceremony! Life has a funny way of working things out.
It was such an honor and complete joy to have been there for them as they exchanged the sweetest vows, and got officially married! Mallory was actually able to officiate her own wedding which was definitely a unique touch and I loved being part of their special day. After they shared their first kiss as husband & wife, they danced to their first dance song. It was absolutely perfect.
Despite road closures, lots of walking and the unexpected things this virus had thrown at them, Mallory and Josh didn’t let it slow them down or damper the complete joy of the day. We found a small grove of cherry blossom trees for their bride & groom portraits and we took our sweet time taking all the portraits.
I have to say, although the day wasn’t what anyone was originally expected, it was still absolutely beautiful and one of my favorite wedding days ever.
Now I cannot wait to share my favorites from their wedding day! Enjoy gorgeous bridal details (including a pair of drool-worthy Jimmy Choo heels!), their sweet intimate ceremony and ALL the couples portraits!
Everytime I look at these portraits, I fall in love all over again. I’ll be obsessing for these for a LONG time! It truly was magical sharing this moment with Mallory and Josh and I am so thankful that they had me there for their elopement AND that I’ll still be able to capture their wedding day this October in Texas! This has given me the most joy and hope during this crazy time and I can’t wait to celebrate with them (again!) in the fall.
Cheers to the vendors for their elopement:
