It was an incredible day filled to the brim with stunning details. Luisa & Matt decided on March 19 for their wedding date and we were blessed with one of the most beautiful Virginia spring days I’ve ever seen for a wedding. Luisa’s eye for a classy and modern wedding came to life and I was blown away by the details and how her vision came together for their VMFA wedding in Richmond, Virginia.
They waited 441 days for this day. It was so evident on their wedding day just how loved they are by the people who know them and knowing them, you just can’t help it. I loved every minute of working with these two and it never even felt like work because it was just so much fun! It was truly my honor being their photographer and friend. Last Friday I got to meet Matt & Luisa at Libby Hill Park in Richmond VA for their engagement session and I have to say it was definitely one of the most fun engagement sessions I’ve ever done! The weather was perfect and it was a sunny day which made for gorgeous golden hour portraits! Luisa and Matt were so fun to talk with and getting to hear more about them and their sweet pets! Especially since their 5 month old puppy, Max, joined us for photos and I was over the moon!
Many brides this year had been forced to postpone their wedding and it’s made really difficult when as a bride with an October 2020 date has to postpone to 2021 but your venue, photographer and other vendors already booked the same weekend date in 2021! There are clearly really popular months and dates to have a wedding and it gets booked up twice as fast as normal due to the current state of events.
But don’t fret, bride to be! There are 52 weeks in a year with SO many more options than just a Saturday wedding in June or October. I’m here to share why non-peak wedding dates are actually the best, and not just because it’s a pandemic 😉
As engagement season is getting back into swing with our new normal, a question I got during spring from several semi-anxious brides were: When should we send out our Save the Dates?! I know most of my couples wait to send their Save the Dates until after their engagement photos have been taken so they can use their favorite portrait on the Save the Date. For those of you in the same boat, waiting until after your engagement session but also getting antsy about sending out your Save the Dates, here’s your reassurance: You don’t need to send out Save the Dates over a year ahead of time or anything like that 😉 Here are my recommendations and the usual timeline for sending out save the dates!
One question I sometimes get by an inquiring bride is: have you ever photographed a wedding at my venue before?
And something I’m so passionate about because I can tell you that IT DOESN’T MATTER. It does not matter at all if a photographer you’re inquiring with has not shot at your venue before. Here is my reasoning why it absolutely isn’t a deciding factor or a matter of importance if the photographer you’re interested in hasn’t shot there before.
When I have couples who ask me, “Can we bring our dog to our engagement session?“ the answer will ALWAYS be a YES! There is a little more to keep in mind when including your fur baby so that we can make sure we have a great time including them and get some great photos! Check out my 5 tips for including your pup in your engagement session!
I love the warmth and brightness that Summer weddings bring, especially with later sunset times, giving us more of that beautiful light for portraits!
As always in Virginia, we know the weather can be unpredictable and summer tends to get very hot and humid. BUT that doesn’t mean your wedding has to suffer! There’s so many ways I stay cool while shooting summer weddings as a photographer and things I’ve seen through the years to help beat the heat for your guests, for you and overall Summer wedding day tips!
